Between soaring food prices and feed shortages, the war in Ukraine has rocked the EU’s agri-food sector and thrown an age-old issue back into the limelight: food security.

According to the European Commission, despite the challenges that have arisen from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, food security is not at risk in the bloc.

So why, then, is the EU executive ramping up production across member states? What is the real issue here – food availability, or accessibility? And what can the EU do to combat this?
