EU policies strive to provide citizens and businesses with secure, sustainable, and affordable energy. The European Commission backs various energy transition efforts, concentrating on smart grids, energy storage, and digitalisation.

One notable initiative is the InterConnect project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. Its goal is to enable efficient energy management for end-users through interoperable solutions.

InterConnect focuses on eight key areas: standardisation, ontology, digital platforms, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud, electric grid, big data, and cybersecurity. It spans seven large-scale test sites across Europe.

This report looks at the InterConnect project, analysing its impact and outcomes.
